So now that all of you are one the blog,
WELCOME!on this first blog, there are a few things that i would like for y'all to do, and check out.
1.
please reply to this post so that i know all of you are connected and reading the blog at least once a day.
2. i want to show you guys the importance of selecting songs. and everyweek, i'll post up a new point to look at.
Tim Hughes, writer of songs like "beautful one," and "here i am to worship" says that when he sits down before coming up with a set, he likes to think of "what he can bring that's fresh and inviting."
(check out the whole article here) personally, i look at several things when i sit down to pick out songs to sing on both sundays and tuesdays. this week, we're going to look at the most imporant thing:
-God's heart. Where is He trying to take the fellowship/congregation this week? What message is he trying to convey? What must we do now in response to His worship? These are all questions you ask even before you sit down and start plucking songs. why not start with prayer.(go pray... ok, welcome back)
let's not supernaturally assume that the songs we pick will be the songs that God wants. let's ask Him. Read the passage that andy is going to preach from. you can usually find this on his blog
harborofgrace.blogspot.com ... or you can just ask him - he's a pretty nice guy, and probably will let you know.
from the verse or verses he gives you, there are some great songs that you can pluck from them. say we were learning about the veracity of God's Word, and the incredible power and truth that come from it. instantly, i recall mercyme's "word of God speak" or "voice of truth" by casting crowns. a keyword search on praisemusic websites are good. soon, we're going to get out to you every piece of sheet music i have. this'll help a lot.
this trimester and the next, i would love to start seeing you guys put up song ideas, but not just that... how bout whole set ideas? andy will be leading next week DEC. 13 if everything works out. let me know if God is putting on your heart to lead as well.
here are the songs for tuesday, and the thoughts for choosing them:surrender - a song that says, i have nothing left, to YOu i must surrender, what a great response to God. probably and ending song.
famous one - Declaring to the world that GOD is famous, and shouting back to Him. This would be a great first song.
no one like You - a great fast paced song. easy to follow along, and just darn fun to sing.
sing to the King - one of my favorite horizontal songs, calling to the world that our KING is worthy to be sung to. it also paints a picture of what it's going to be like when He comes back. totally sweet.
in the secret - an oldie, but a goodie, slightly fast paced, and a song that EVERYONE knows. yes. everyone.
consuming fire - a great slow song to bring it back with. passionate, rendering, awesome.
More than enough - an interesting slow song that can be used at the beginning of a set to be horizontal, saying that He is more than enough for anything you bring to Him. but a cool closing song too- saying that You are more than enough, yes, now i see.
usually, andy gives me an idea of what the sermon is about early in the week, so that i can keep in prayer what songs we should play. he was away this week, so the songs are slightly general, and if you notice, there's quite a few of them. i like to make up more than enough songs so that you can be more ready at the end of a sermon to pick the exact song to sing.
i love you guys.
